Business Owners
We have significant experience representing businesses and business owners in condemnation and eminent domain matters. Our lawyers have litigated eminent domain matters involving public authorities at the municipal, county, state, and federal levels, throughout Ohio on behalf of businesses.
For example, ODOT used eminent domain to take one-half acre of a 17-acre parking lot owned by our client. After a three-day trial, the state was forced to pay 11 times more than their initial offer for taking our client’s property.
Our other experience on behalf of businesses and business owners includes:
- Obtaining a $1.3 million jury verdict for a business owner who owned property being taken by eminent domain for aesthetic enhancements that would block the visibility of the business and restrict access to the property.
- Obtaining a $300,000 jury verdict for a family-owned business in Lima. The Ohio Department of Transportation offered the business $11,000 for their property, which was used to construct a new highway.
